August 5th, 2011 (Eagle River, WI) - August 5, 2011 brought Paige, Claire, and the rest of the Mid American drivers to Norway, MI for the Vercauteren Memorial. The girls did surprisingly well in qualifying; Claire 7th and Paige 9th. The way they qualified, secured them into the top 12. Which meant they were safely in the feature, and also made the invert. The invert was 10, which had Paige starting outside pole and Claire starting 5th. Paige and Gutknecht were battling in the first row, and Claire and Finney (who ended up winning the feature) were battling in the second row. Paige stayed in 2nd trying to hold off the fast guys coming up, and Claire was battling a very loose car the whole time, loosing a few positions. There were many cautions, and one of them Paige was tangled up in. Fast qualifier Jeff Holtz spun right in front of Paige, and with no where to go, Paige made contact, and that ended her night. Claire however was still out there, and was ready. Green flag waved and the racing started again. Claire's car came in very well, and the looseness was gone. She was gaining back spots that she lost in the first half of the race. She was passing Nowak and Swan on the outside, which was a good sight for car owner and dad, Allen Decker. Claire ended up with a solid 6th place finish for the night, which was her best ever finish for a Mid Am race. Claire and spotter Allen Decker were all smiles as the car pulled back into the trailer. They had a very successful night!
Next race for Paige and Claire is at Wisconsin Dells; for the Dells Dual Part Two. They will also be drawing the winner of the Boring Bob's trip to Phoenix, AZ for the NASCAR race, which will be hosted by Paige Decker. We hope to see you all there!
